Joshua Agboola, a 13-year-old programmer, is now Africa’s youngest Certified Amazon Web Services (AWS) Developer Associate.

Agboola accomplished the achievement after a taxing two-hour examination that assessed his abilities and understanding in deploying, troubleshooting, and creating on the AWS cloud platform, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Infrastructure, platforms, or software that are hosted by outside providers and made accessible to customers online are referred to as cloud services.

In an interview with NAN on Sunday in Lagos, Agboola claimed that his great performance on the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam earlier in the year served as motivation for him to accomplish the feat.

He claimed that as a result, his father had pushed him to continue pursuing a career in the cloud by taking the next certification level.

Agboola claimed that despite his interest in DevOps, he pursued the Solutions Architect Associate certification because it was the standard course of action.

“I was initially preparing for the Solutions Architect Associate certification which is the next certification most people take in their AWS cloud journey, but had a change of mind for a tougher developer associate certification due to encouragement from an older friend programmer.

‘’The light bulb went up in my head, and I began studying the next day.

‘’The possibility of clinching the title of the youngest Developer Associate in the world, which is an equivalent of a world record in the cloud space, also became a strong motivation for me,’’ he said.

He claims that over the course of around six weeks, I studied for the test for two to five hours per day.

According to Agboola, the purpose of the first two weeks of study was to understand the course’s fundamental ideas and become knowledgeable about every subject that might be covered on the test.

He claimed that he spent some of his study time revising and had to cover the Solutions Architect course’s material early, which made me happy to see that my preparation had paid off.

“A tech. company in Lagos has already offered to provide me with further technical mentorship,” the 13-year-old online sensation claimed, claiming that his accomplishment in the cloud domain has been noted.

He encouraged the young people to pursue their aspirations by dedicating his success to those who want to pursue careers in technology.

Being certified as an AWS Developer Associate, in Amazon’s opinion, demonstrates competency in designing, deploying, and debugging cloud-based applications as well as knowledge and comprehension of fundamental AWS services.

According to Amazon, companies with AWS-certified engineers may be sure they have the necessary personnel to give them a competitive advantage and guarantee the happiness of their stakeholders and clients.

“Preparing for and attaining this certification gives certified individuals more confidence and credibility,” it added.

According to NAN, Agboola was the youngest person in Africa to earn the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification after taking the test and passing.

He also took the AWS Solutions Architect Associate test on July 17, 2023, passing with flying colors—another first for Africa.
